HELP START MY SCOOBY

Ok, first off i crashed the old boy 7 weeks ago. Alot of body work damage but thats about it.

Well its been sat around for 7 weeks as i try and get the money together to get it on the road again, now last week tried to start it (after getting a new coilpack, since the other one was stolen) and the engine turns over but wouldn't start.

I thought i know what it is, its the exhaust (the backbox pipe connecting to the centre pipe was almost closed up not letting the gases out. Managed to get most the backbox off the centre pipe (i say most because 1 nut wouldnt come off) so i twisted the backbox away from the centre pipe to let the gases come out of there.

But still it wouldnt start.

Does anyone think that easy start spray into the airbox would help? Or is it just a push down the road and bump start it enough?

There was no problems with the engine and i cant see any problems within the engine bay or under the car. its a uk turbo 2000 my00

Check the connections to the coil and plugs as stated above also. Can you hear the fuel pump kicking in?

i think the fuel pump is kicking in? What does it sound like and where is it located? the gases are coming out the exhaust, if that helps. To be honest im not sure though. where are the spark plugs? The coil pack i connected myself all the connections to the ht leads are fine.

When it turns over it sounds like its struggling to come to life, you think its about to then it doesnt happen.

The fuel pump will buzz from the rear drivers side (its inside the tank) when you first turn the key to position 2 when it primes the lines. You should hear a little buzz. Spark plugs are located at the other end of the leads from the coil. Basically down the sides of the engine when looking at it from the front.

Can't say I've noticed one on mine of the same year, but if you can't hear the fuel pump as mentioned, maybe there is a fuel cut off switch that was triggered in the accident.

How was the car hit, front/back etc?

so do you lot reckon that theres a problem other than that it has been sat for seven weeks? I didnt know was a fuel cut off? is there one? or are you just pondering joey?

Yeah just pondering, as I would have seen a fuel cutoff switch at some point.
So is it front or rear damage?
Check for a live of the fuel pump, it may jut be coincidence that it has given up now.

Have you fitted the Ht leads to the coil in the correct order?

How do i check for the fuel pump working? just listen for a noise as i turn the key once? I think i put the ht leads in correctly lol stupid mistake if i havent. The coil pack has numbers 1234 on it so i spose i could have put no.1 into no.2 by accident and vise versa. Would that make a differece? thanks for the help guys alot cheaper than a mobile mechanic lol

and joey the damage is front and rear lol it spun and went down an embankment so damage was, 2x front wings, front and rear bumper, 2x n.s doors, 2 x front tyres, rear lights, back box and boot lid but i love my scoob so all my money is going on fixing it so far.

The HT leads must be in the respective numbers on the coil otherwise there is absolutely no way it will start. It may backfire alot but it certainly won't start.

how do i check which ht lead goes to which number on the coil pack? may sound simple to you, but to someone who doesnt know its not that easy! Do the ht leads have numbers on them? or where they orginally connect down the sides does it have numbers down there? cheers!

Im really hoping ive put them on wrong becuase im pretty sure the car was backing firing but not starting up when i tried it. I just thought at the time because its doing something then the coilpack is working.

As it looks.. ie. left front of coilpack to left front cylinder, left rear to left rear etc.

does it have a fuel pump cut out switch that you have to reset after a bump my old car had one of them

have you checked the spark plugs aren't wet with fuel happened to a bike of mine when trying to start it after winter, i tried that much that i ended up soaking the plugs and there was no way that it would start

When i had a problem with my scoob not starting about a year ago it turned out to be the fuel pump.
It would turn over but wouldnt start.
The best way to know if its a fuel problem is to disconnect 1 of the fuel hoses going to the engine, then prime the ignition and see if fuel comes through.
If there's no fuel coming through then its a fuel problem.

hey guys! Right been down to the scooby today, and wow debbiesonic your advice started my scoob thanks alot! engine working fine! also fitted the afterburner extreme which is amazing heard nothing like it ever!
